An opportunity to help Monty's family has been suggested by a family friend. This is from a letter sent by Stephanie Lynch:
...I have another opportunity for anyone who wants to do something. We are holding a blood drive at Saddleback Church this Saturday (9/6) in conjunction with the grand opening of their new Refinery building from 11-5. All who donate blood will be given their choice of a Starbucks or a Chipotle gift card. I don't think that Monty needs blood, but I'm sure the family would love the gift cards! If you would like to donate blood and then donate your gift card you would be serving 2 worthy causes. I know that blood donations are a cause that their family supports because Kristine has given there many times. I will be at the blood drive all day so if you come in just let us know that you want to donate your cards. The blood-mobiles will be in The Refinery parking lot, there will also be live music, shows, an appearance by Kyle Loza, etc. so it's a great event for the kids to come to and you can drag as many people in to donate as you want.

Dear Saddleback Family,
Recently I have been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease, a highly treatable form of cancer located in my lymph nodes. I will start treatment soon and have every intention of being back in the gym in time for the 14's tryouts. In the meantime your prayers are much appreciated.

Updates on Monty:
(August 27th)
Dear Friends,
We were disappointed to find out this afternoon that Monty's first round of chemotherapy has been postponed due to a hold up with the results of his bone marrow biopsy. He is now scheduled to begin treatment on September 8.
Tonight we are holding on tight to Philippians 4:6-7. Don't worry about anything. Instead, tell God about everything. Ask and pray. Give thanks to Him. Then God's peace will watch over your hearts and minds...
We thank you once again for all your encouragement and prayer.
The Johns Family
(August 18th)
First, we want to thank everyone who has encouraged and supported us as we started the process of learning about Monty's illness. Your kind gestures and prayers have been very much appreciated. We have been blessed and thank God for each one of you and your impact on our lives.
Monty has a few more tests to take, but what we know for sure is that he has been diagnosed with Nodular Sclerosing Hodgkin's Disease. The effected lymph nodes are all located in his lower neck/chest area. We met with an oncologist today who believes that the cancer is in stage 2B. That diagnosis will be confirmed after bone marrow testing early next week. This type of cancer is very treatable with chemotherapy and radiation. The recovery rates are very good and Monty is optimistic about getting through this little detour that he has been forced to take. He will begin treatment in 1-2 weeks. We will keep you updated as things progress. Please continue to pray for Monty's strength and complete recovery.
